New York City Marathon 2010

On Sunday, November 7, 2010, the New York City Marathon took place.
Haile Gebrselassie, the world record holder, dropped out more than half way through because he had a bad knee, when he dropped out another man stepped forward. His name was Gebre of Ethiopia.  In the end, he won in 2:08:14.  Who knew a twenty-six year old man could run that fast!
On the women's side a lady from Kenya won, and placing second was an American girl who had never run a marathon before.
Do you remember when the Chilean miners were rescued?  Well, one of those miners had been running and training underground, running through the mind shaft.  His name was Edison Penya.  He finished the marathon in 5:30:00, pretty good for a man who was trapped underground!
